GUIDE

Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who
does not need to be ashamed and
who correctly handles the Word of Truth.
2 Timothy 2:15
WELCOME TO AWANA!!!
Dear Parents/Guardian:
We just want to say Thank-You for allowing your
child to attend our Awana Program. We trust
that they will have a great time and will want to come back every week.
The Bible says, “Train a child in the way he should go, and
when he is old he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6
Realizing that today’s young people are confronted with more difficult decisions than
ever before, Awana’s Bible-based program seeks
to establish them on a firm biblical foundation, which will provide direction
for their daily lives. Each clubber is very special to us, and to God.
Awana presents an
opportunity for your young person to establish and grow in their relationship
with God, and to build self-esteem and good relationships with others.
You can really help your clubber in these areas by encouraging them to complete
the sections in their handbooks and by showing interest in their achievements.
We have prepared this booklet to help answer some
questions you may have about Awana. Please feel
free to visit the club meetings at any time and to talk with us about your
special concerns.

WHAT IS AWANA?
Awana is a Bible
Club for young people, 3-years-old thru High School. It is not a social
club, a craft club, or an athletic club. It is a Bible Club centered around the Word of God.
WHAT ARE THE CLUB
OBJECTIVES?
1.
EVANGELISM—To reach as many young people as possible with the gospel of
Christ, and give each of them an opportunity to accept Christ as their Savior.
2.
TRAINING—To prepare clubbers to accept responsibility for spreading the
gospel through leadership service and witness.
WHERE ARE CLUB
MEETINGS?
Awana club meetings at Spring Bayou are every Sunday
night during the school year with check-in beginning at 5:00PM and clubs
starting at 5:15PM. It is very important that clubbers are not late!!!
We will do our very best to be finished by 7:00PM. Check In and Pick Up
will be in the gym behind the church. Cubbie
Tots and Cubbies will be picked up in their rooms.
WHAT WILL MY CHILD BE DOING?
There are three main parts to Awana:
1.
Council Time—This is
where weekly awards will be given out and a Bible message is presented.
2.
Handbook Time—This
is where the club works in small groups reciting Bible memory verses.
3.
Game Time—This is
where the club enjoys supervised games and recreation.
WHAT IS THE COST?
DUES
There are no yearly dues, but we will be taking up a nightly offering to help
further our Awana Ministry. No offering is too
big or too small.
AWANA UNIFORMS
& CIRRICULUM
All uniforms, handbags, and handbooks are provided by
ADOPT A CLUB
The Adopt-A-Club program allows each child to contribute $5.00 per year toward
sponsoring an Awana Program in another country.
The child will receive a different color Adopt-A-Club patch for each year of
participation.
TELL ME ABOUT
THE AWARDS
Each Awana member has the opportunity to earn
exciting awards. These awards can be worn on the uniform. Ribbons,
plaques, and trophies are also given for the completion of one or more
handbooks throughout the year. Each child is allowed to work at their own pace and will be guided and helped by a caring
leader.
These awards can be worn on or displayed proudly. They represent good
achievement and spiritual growth in the knowledge of God and His Word. We
will encourage all young people to strive for their highest potential.
AWANA POLICY STATES
AWARDS CAN ONLY
BE GIVEN TO
CLUBBERS IN UNIFORM.
PLEASE ENCOURAGE
YOUR CHILD TO WEAR
THEIR UNIFORM EACH WEEK.
HOW DO I HELP MY
CHILD PREPARE
FOR EACH WEEK?
We know that children are busy with homework and other activities outside of
school, but God’s Word is the most important thing a child can
learn. Ten minutes of uninterrupted study should adequately prepare your
child to recite handbook material each week. While there will be adults
to help clubbers during their club time, it is very important that parents work
with their children at home, for club time is the time to recite what they have
learned during the week.
Clubbers should always wear modest play clothes to club. Dress clothes
are not a good idea for game time. Shorts should be no shorter than the
tips of fingers when standing erect. Tennis shoes are almost a
necessity. After uniforms are given to the clubber, they should be worn
each week. Special awards may be given for clubbers with all awards
displayed properly and their vest/shirt buttoned properly. Please
encourage your child to wear their uniform every week. Again, awards will only
be given if Awana uniforms are worn properly.

the first half and last half of the year. Every 100 points is equal to

child. They can choose which card they would like to have. We do
this as an incentive to encourage the clubbers to strive toward Awana goals.
LET’S
TALK ABOUT DISCIPLINE
Awana is intended to be fun, yet
still maintain
order. Awana
discipline orbits around
two methods.
1.
THE FIVE COUNT—This is the count given to gain the attention of leaders and
clubbers. Clubbers who do not respond with quiet by the end of the Five
Count may lose privileges.
2.
THREE STRIKES—Any clubber who fails to heed the Five Count or who does
something highly disruptive will be given a “Strike” by a
leader. A Strike is a verbal warning.
A Clubber that receives three Strikes in one evening, will be removed from the club for the remainder of
the meeting. Depending on the nature of the offense, the child will be:
-Required to sit in the office until club is over.
-Returned to parent.
-Taken home if a parent is not present.
-A clubber who routinely disrupts club may be
directed to take a “vacation” from Awana during which they MAY NOT attend meetings.
-If a clubber should ever become physical, the
parent will be notified IMMEDIATELY.
-Awana staff will NEVER
physically punish clubbers.
MOST IMPORTANTLY
Please pray for our
clubs each week. We know
that it is essential to have God’s guidance and
leadership for our Awana Ministry to be a Success!!!
